Welcome to episode 34 of AI in Action, the podcast that breaks down the hype and explores the impact that Data Science, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence are making on our everyday lives.
Our goal is to share with you the insights of technologists and data science enthusiasts to showcase the excellent work that is been done within AI in Ireland.
Today’s guest is Aljosa Smolic. Aljosa is the SFI Research Professor of Creative Technologies at Trinity College Dublin and he is also the co-founder of Volograms, who aim to bring reality capture closer to everyone. Volograms’ technology uses a set of videos taken from different viewpoints and transforms them into volumetric holograms that can be enjoyed in Virtual and Augmented Reality.
In this really fascinating episode, you will learn about:
- His background and how he came to Ireland
- Interesting work he did during his time with Disney
- How Volograms came about
- Fascinating applications that have been achieved with Volograms
- How Artificial Intelligence helps them with the reconstruction of 3D models
- Current research, such as looking into “virtual humans”
- What makes them stand out from the competition
- Trying out their technologies for real-world scenarios
- Where to find out more about Volograms
