Welcome to episode 25 of the AI Ireland podcast, the show that breaks down the hype and explores the impact that Data Science, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence are making on our everyday lives.
Our goal is to share with you the insights of technologists and data science enthusiasts to showcase the excellent work that is been done within AI in Ireland.
Today’s guest is Pointy co-founder Mark Cummins. Pointy lets local retailers put their stock online so that they can be discovered via search engines using a small electronic device “The Pointy Box” that plugs into a shop’s barcode scanner and point-of-sale system. Whenever a product is scanned, Pointy automatically recognises it and uses the information to build up a website so that customers can easily find them online.
In today’s really interesting podcast, you will learn about:
- Mark’s background, including what he learned during his time with Google
- What inspired him to set up Pointy
- How they went about creating the Pointy box and the website platform for local retailers
- Challenges they needed to overcome
- How they manage the supply chain and make sure the products are in stock
- Benefits that Pointy has brought to local retailers
- The ultimate goal with Pointy
- Mark’s thoughts on where AI is heading in the near future
