There is less than a week to go until our fifth Data Science Ireland meetup, which looks set to be another fantastic evening at Huckletree D2.

We have Jim Dowling, CEO of Logical Clocks and Associate Professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm to present his talk “Hops: Python-First Scale Out Deep Learning.” Jim is the lead architect of Hops Hadoop, the world’s most fastest and most scalable Hadoop distribution, and only Hadoop platform with support for GPUs as a resource.

In his talk, Jim will describe how they make the machine learning practitioner experience as close to the desktop data scientist experience, with a Python-First platform for writing machine-learning workflows on Big Data. He will also show how to debug applications using Tensorboard, and how to examine logs and monitor training and inferencing.

Then it will be over to Stephen Redmond, who has over 20 years experience delivering data and analytics projects both in the public and private sector with extensive experience with advanced analytics, data visualisation, data modelling, architecture and project management. Stephen is the Big Data and AI Delivery Lead at Accenture and also lectures part-time on data analytics at the National College of Ireland.

Data visualisation is enormously important in data science. From the humble histogram to complex multi-dimensional visualisations, all should be part of the data scientist’s arsenal. In Stephen’s talk “Visual data discovery using bipartite graphs,” he will present some of his work on a method of displaying bipartite graph data that allows both the data scientist and the business user to discover relationships in their data.

Finally, Eric Risser, Founder and CTO of Artomatix will talk about “A.I. Disrupting the Future of Content Creation for Games.” Artomatix is the global leader in using artificial intelligence to automate the art creation process. Artomatix uses Creative AI to help automate many of the mundane, tedious and repetitive tasks artists and designers face every day which in turn creates time for artists, by providing a suite of tools for a 10X faster, better workflow.

Eric’s talk will introduce the academic theory and history behind Creative AI and delves into specific use cases and applications such as Texture Synthesis, Material Enhancement, Hybridization and Style Transfer.
