In this episode, my guest is Adam Bermingham who is the Engineering lead at Zalando. Adam is responsible for managing the delivery of data science products across five teams focused on image and text analysis, insights applications and microservices on Zalando’s Content Platform.
After originally working as a Software Engineer, Adam completed a PhD in Sentiment Analysis and Information Retrieval from DCU. He continued in academia as a Principal Investigator on several projects in areas such as social media analytics, personalization of reminiscence therapy and real-time sports summarization. He then worked as a Data Scientist at Independent News and Media developing predictive analytics technology, generating deep data insights, and developing and optimizing data-driven products.
Now he delivers data science products at Zalando, which is Europe’s leading online fashion platform. Zalando offers their customers a one-stop, convenient shopping experience with an extensive selection of fashion articles including shoes, clothing and accessories with free delivery and returns. Data science is heavily used to provide data-driven recommendations, which helps them better understand their customers and gain deep insights into their behaviour and purchasing patterns to provide them with a more personalised, compelling offering.
